A medical certificate is an official document provided by a qualified doctor certifying that you have a medical condition that makes you unfit for work, school, or other obligations. It may also be used to certify attendance at a medical appointment or for carer’s leave.

How old do I need to be to get a medical certificate?
We only accept patients 16 years of age or older.

Who can issue a medical certificate?
Medical certificates must be issued by a qualified medical practitioner, such as a General Practitioner (GP). Our certificates are provided by Australian-registered doctors and are 100% compliant with all Australian regulations.

How can I get a medical certificate?
Our process is simple and can be completed online. Follow these steps:

• Book and pay online using our secure system.
• A doctor will review your submission and contact you for a telehealth consultation.
• Once completed, you will receive your medical certificate via email—most are issued within 2 hours.

How much does a medical certificate cost?

• $18 for a single-day medical certificate*
• $29 for a multi-day medical certificate
• $35 for a priority medical certificate (jump the queue).
  
  *Retrospective single-day requests 2 or more calendar days before today are billed at the multi-day certificate rate.

Telehealth & Online Requests

Can I get a medical certificate through telehealth?
Yes, medical certificates can be issued following a telehealth consultation, provided that the doctor deems it clinically appropriate. Telehealth consultations are considered valid, but the doctor must assess your condition through a real-time consultation such as a video or phone call.

What happens if the doctor cannot assess my condition through telehealth?
If the doctor feels that they cannot make a reliable clinical judgement during the telehealth consultation, they may recommend that you attend an in-person appointment. This ensures they can perform any necessary physical examinations to make an informed decision.

Why should I request a medical certificate online instead of visiting a doctor in person?

Certificate Validity and Duration

Is a telehealth medical certificate valid?
Yes, telehealth medical certificates are fully valid in Australia. Our doctors conduct a thorough assessment during your telehealth consult, and the certificate is issued in compliance with Australian regulations.

How long will my medical certificate cover me for?
The duration of your medical certificate will be clinically justified by the doctor based on your condition. It will cover the period in which you are unfit to work or perform your usual activities due to illness or injury.

Is there a maximum number of days a medical certificate can cover?
No, there is no strict limit to the number of days a medical certificate can cover. The doctor will assess your medical condition and determine the appropriate length of time you should be certified as unfit for work or other activities. Most certificates will cover up to a maximum of 3 days. If longer is required you may need to see a doctor in person.

Can I request an extension if my illness continues after my medical certificate expires?
Yes, if your condition persists beyond the period covered by your initial medical certificate, you can request an additional certificate by scheduling another appointment. The doctor will reassess your condition to determine if an extended period is clinically justified. They may request if you’re symptoms are not improving that you are reviewed by a doctor in person.

Confidentiality & Legalities

Will my medical certificate include my diagnosis?
A medical certificate does not typically include a diagnosis unless specifically requested by the patient or required by a third party. In such cases, the patient must provide express consent before the doctor includes this information.

What if my employer wants more information about my medical condition?
Your doctor will only share additional information with your employer if you provide express consent. Employers are not entitled to see details of your diagnosis unless you allow it.

Are there any situations where I should not request a medical certificate?
Medical certificates should not be requested if there is insufficient medical evidence to support your inability to work. Doctors are bound by professional ethics to provide honest and accurate certificates and cannot issue one without a valid medical reason.

Is my information kept confidential?
Yes, all consultations and medical certificates are confidential. Your personal health information is protected under Australian privacy laws and will not be shared without your consent.

What if I am outside Australia? Can I still request a medical certificate?
If you are outside of Australia and need a medical certificate for use in Australia, you can still request one as long as the doctor can perform an appropriate telehealth consultation. Certain restrictions may apply depending on your location.
